Tottenham news: Danny Rose reveals fiery half-time team talk Harry Kane gave to players in semi-final vs Ajax
A frank exchange of words at half-time helped Tottenham players re-focus and stage an epic comeback to reach the Champions League final.Spurs found themselves 2-0 down at half-time at the Johan Cruyff Arena and, with an aggregate score of 3-0, they were heading out.Ajax’s Dutch defender Matthijs de Ligt (L) celebrates scoring a goal in the Champions League semi-final second legGETTY4

Harry Kane, though, watching from the stands burst into the away changing room at half-time to remind them what was at stake in a fiery team talk.Asked by talkSPORT presenter Sam Matterface if the rollicking in Amsterdam really happened, defender Danny Rose confirmed him and his team-mates were on the end of a verbal lashing.“He mentioned that we were showing Frenkie de Jong too much respect and said ‘who’s the one that’s going to get around him and show him that he’s in for a game,” he explained, presumably giving the more watered down version. And while fans rarely see his angry side, Rose added he will absolutely let you know if he thinks you’re not pulling your weight. “He asked if we wanted our season to end like this and once Harry goes, he goes and he’s very passionate.“It’s a great side to see because it shows he cares. He’s got all these goals and accolades, but is never satisfied.“He’s a great England captain to have and a great club one, too.”Whatever was said clearly had the desired effect, though Rose admitted the Ajax players were attempting mind games, including goalkeeper Andre Onana, who was booked for time wasting.Rose admits he was riled up by Ajax in the away legGETTY4

It didn’t impress the defender – who also received a yellow card – nor did the fact some of his own team-mates missed chances he feels they should have buried.“In the first half I felt we played really well and, not only that, we’d squandered two or three chances I would expect certain individuals to score.“I told them at half-time we’re not playing a lesser Premier League team where these chances will come again, so I was disappointed we didn’t take them.“That’s where my frustration came from in the second half – Ajax made us wait out on the pitch for a while before the game restarted and the goalkeeper was taking his time with goal kicks.Andre Onana was booked for time wasting and, before Lucas Moura scored his hat-tick, was shouting that the game was overGETTY4

“Even before we scored the third goal, he was saying ‘it’s over, it’s over’ and things like that got on my nerves.“When I’m like that I’m focused and yeah, I got booked and, in the end I was struggling with my hamstrings so the gaffer decided not to take the risk in case we did get to the final.“Thankfully we did and I didn’t get sent off!”Kane gave his team-mates a half-time rollicking in AmsterdamGETTY4
