Manchester United have failed in a world record bid to sign Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly, according to reports.Jose Mourinho is a huge admirer of the centre-half and had convinced chief executive Ed Woodward to part with 91million to bring him to Old Trafford – a world record fee.2

However, Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport claim Napoli presidentAurelio De Laurentiis ‘immediately’ rejected the approach.The Red Devils failed with an 80million bid for Koulibaly in October, with Mourinho desperate to add steel to the heart of his rather flimsy defence.They currently sit in seventh place in the Premier League, conceding a staggering 21 goals in what is their worst start to a season for 28 years.The 27-year-old is a French-born Senegal international and has risen to prominence since joining the Serie A side from Genk in 2014.2
