Dominic Solanke: Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson wants to sign ‘class’ Liverpool forward
Roy Hodgson hopes Crystal Palace can complete the signing of Liverpool forward Dominic Solanke in the January transfer window.Speaking to talkSPORT following the Eagles’ defeat by Chelsea on Sunday, Hodgson confirmed Palace are looking to bring a striker to Selhurst Park next month.Solanke, the England international, has been linked with a loan move to south London from Liverpool having not played a single minute of senior football for the Reds this season.3

Steve Parish, the Crystal Palace chairman, hinted ahead of the match that a deal for Solanke is on the cards.“We are trying, these things are never straightforward but we really are trying to get someone in early if we can,” he told beIN Sports.“It will make a big difference and we think it will lift everybody.“For once, the papers are not miles off what we’re looking for.”And Hodgson echoed his boss’s comments in an interview with talkSPORT.He said: “We make no bones of the fact we are looking for someone to lead our line and score some goals for us.3

Solanke has not made a single appearance for Liverpool this season

“We are linked with various players.“I believe the chairman today has confirmed that there is some truth in the reports, and in my opinion it would be good if we could land a player of his class.”Palace’s interest in a centre forward comes as no surprise. Scoring goals has been a real issue for the Eagles this term, with just 17 netted in the 20 Premier League matches they have played to date.They were comprehensively outplayed by Chelsea on Sunday, only really coming alive and offering an attacking threat after the 80 minute mark.However, Hodgson made a damning assessment of his side following the full-time whistle – claiming they never looked like scoring during their period on top in the final stages.3

Palace remain five points clear of the relegation zone

“We tried to stay in the game,” Hodgson continued, “and then in the last 25 minutes we took a bit of a risk by throwing a centre forward on and opening ourselves out a little bit more.“I thought we at least gave the crowd something to cheer about, but, to be frank, I never thought we were going to score in that period either because in the moments that came our way we didn’t have the wherewithal to produce a golden chance.”
